July 12 & 13, 2008 - 2-day Workshop with Unmata
You will not want to miss the ultra fun, high energy of Unmata!! UNMATA is a professional, multi-award-winning, belly dance fusion troupe based in Sacramento, CA. The high-energy team force of UNMATA is known for extreme choreography, inventive Tribal improvisation, and for tapping into an unmistakable divine inebriation on and off stage. For a little taste of Unmata's "HotPot" Tribal Improv go to www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4Q8wK5yffU

Saturday, July 12:

"Sigil School" - 12:00-2:00pm - Get a behind-the-scenes look at the teaching format of Amy Sigil in this interactive split session with UNMATA. In the first half of class, Amy will share her experience, ideas, and dance doctrine—as well as answer your questions. In the second half of class, you will get on your feet for a Sigil School whirlwind demonstration. Tag words: warm-ups, transitions, music, mixes, tempo, choreography, common vocab, work, craft, drill, team, time, counting, working backwards, notes, repetition, fellowship, and yes, you will sweat!

“HOTPOTTURBOTRIBALTRICKS” - 2:30-4:30pm - Strap-on your jet-packs. In this workshop you’ll get the skinny on what happens when you let off a lot of steam while dancing really good, really fast. You’ll learn and drill two original combos snatched directly from the Hot Pot Studio tribal
vocabulary, both equipped for improv and ready for show. You will have fun. You will sweat. You will be inspired. And after class when you’re sore and on the floor, remember, “Horsepower” is defined as work done over time. We just teach you the tricks.

Sunday, July 13:

“UNMATA au naturel” - 12:00-1:30pm - This multi-level workshop will outline two tribal fusion combinations emphasizing technique and isolation. The first combination will incorporate the building blocks of UNMATA’s modern bellydance style. The second combination will focus primarily on the Hula Fusion nuance. Each movement will be outlined within a tribal cueing system so that it may be added to any troupe’s choreography or tribal vocabulary. Amy will describe and drill each individual movement, then fasten them together into an accessible tribal combo that will be practiced in useful group and duet formations.

“Overlaying Isolations, Amy Sigil Style” - 2:00-3:30pm - Amy’s Art of Overlay is at the heart of this intermediate to advanced belly dance workshop aimed to add expressive layers and distinction to your dance style. Although controlled simultaneous movement is a complex idea, this class provides a simple approach certain to bring impressive results.
Beginning with a thorough breakdown of basic isolation technique, Amy will expand such elements as core strength and relaxed tension, and then demonstrate helpful exercises that are necessary to develop an awareness needed to isolate key muscle groups. Then she will teach and drill an isolation combo that incorporates the artistic flare unique to Amy Sigil and UNMATA. Because this class is designed for the intermediate to advanced dancer, a sufficient understanding of balance and timing is prerequisite.

Cost: Single class = $35 / Full day = $65 / Full weekend = $120
(non-refundable unless event is canceled)

Where: B&R Fitness Center, 1040 Mill Creek Drive (just off Street Rd), Feasterville, PA 19053

Ghuedra African Trance Dance
Date & Time:
2008-07-12 7:00 PM
Location: Ancient Callings Studio
Join Perizad at Ancient Callings Studio, THE studio for women's dance, as she facilitates another Ghuedra African Trance Dance. Used primarily by the nomadic Berber Tribes of North Africa since ancient times, it is a powerful way to heal and cleanse stuck energies while sending out blessings to the community. We will perform the Ghuedra several times in this evening, in a circular format, using counter clapping and chanting. When the Ghuedra heats up, the pace picks up, and the intensity reaches a peak. Come sit in the circle, or brave the center as you "cocoon" yourself in nothingness and listen to the beat and droning of the clapping and chanting, sending you into a trance-like meditation of movement. The release that brings you into a state of rapture or bliss is absolutely awesome!! Each Ghuedra is different, and unique. The benefits of releasing stuck energies are profound. Come experience the GHUEDRA in the sacredness of the Catskill Mountains, with Perizad as your guide.
Weather permitting, a bonfire will immediately follow. Perizad also has space for camping and limited indoor space for an overnight stay.
Refreshments will be provided and you can bring a bagged supper or late night snack.
Directions: NYS Thruway (87) to exit 19-Kingston. Take route 28 west. Once you get into Ashokan make a L onto Reservoir Rd. Toward Olivebridge (immediately after Winchell's restaurant). Go to end, passing over the reservoir. At stop sign make a L, bear R at the fork onto 28A. Continue until you see sign for Acorn Hill road, make a L onto Acorn Hill. Make the next L toward Samsonville (Vincent Dunn Memorial Rd. also country rte. 3). Go about a mile, make a L onto Sheldon Hill Road.  If you're coming from anywhere other than the South, please Mapquest or Google directions. Better yet, email me! ancientcallings@yahoo.com
